Jock
itch (Tinea Cruris) is a fungal infection of the skin of the groin area and upper
thighs. The scrotum
can also be infected.
·
The majority of guys will experience this during
their lives. There is an increased risk for men who are physically active, men
who live in warm, humid climates and for guys who are obese. Fungi like to inhabit
warm, moist, humid environments.
·
It normally appears as
a rash, slightly scaly, with elevated edges. The centre of the rash may have a
red-brown colour. It normally has sharp and distinct borders. It itches and often
gives a burning feeling.
·
You have to wash the infected
area and use an anti-fungal cream. It’s important to signal symptoms early and
begin treatment before things get worse. But then you must be sure it’s jock itch
and not something else. If it persists consult your doctor.
