What works better: a diaphragm
or an IUD? An
IUD is more reliable than a diaphragm. Effectiveness of the diaphragm varies with the user. If a girl is well trained to use it
reliability is 95%. But in practise 18 out of every 100 women who use it become
pregnant after a year. So it’s not very safe. A big advantage is that you only
use it when you have sex. It’s a good choice if you use condoms
as
well. An IUD is reliable if you check monthly to see if it is still in place.
The big advantage is that you don’t have to think about it when you want to make
love. But with some women periods
become heavier, longer and more painful. So if you already have painful periods
an IUD is not a good choice. Mind you that both an IUD and a diaphragm don’t protect
you against STD’s. So
if you or your lover ever had unsafe sex, you better use condoms as well.
